4. PASSION AND SOLID BUSINESS MANAGEMENT SKILLS….WHICH DO YOU NEED?
Why do you need passion? I have worked with many successful business owners who started a business in an industry in which they had absolutely no experience. They succeeded because of their drive to be successful and their desire to learn whatever it would take to make the business profitable. They had “PASSION.”
They knew their strengths and admitted their weaknesses. They surrounded themselves with people who could advise them on what they needed to do, worked with other business owners to learn what they needed to know, and asked their customers, “How can we serve you better?”
They began their business with sweat equity and, in some cases, still had a full time career. They worked many hours every week to succeed and eventually were able to work at their own business full time with outstanding results. I’ve seen this success model many times, so I know anyone can own their own business if they have enough passion.
Answer these questions to rate your passion. On a scale from 1 to 5:
· If your business plan provides a description showing the passion and enthusiasm of the owner(s), rate yourself a 5.
· If this passion is not demonstrated in your business plan, but the passion is clearly defined in planning business operations, rate yourself a 4.
· If you think you know what passion is needed in the successful daily operations of your business, rate yourself a 3.
· If your business management style does not reflect any passion, rate yourself a 2.
· If you are not really interested in the business you own, rate yourself a 1.
